Fully grown elephants can grow to weigh more than five tonnes. One would ask: how then on earth did circus trainers in the old days keep them smashing through every fence and escaping? The answer was not by building a stronger cage or bulwark, but by controlling its thinking – by starting with them when they are babies. Baby elephants are tied to a wooden post secured in the ground and because it was not yet strong, it was unable to pull out the post. It would try and try but never succeed and before too long, it would give up trying.
Though the elephants grew older and stronger, their thinking has been locked tight. ‘Elephants never forget’ is a popular saying, and it’s pretty true. They continue to believe that, whenever they are tied to a post, they cannot escape.
Humans are not much different either. Things we were told or taught when we were very young can continue to hold us back and keep us tied to one spot. Quantum number of people have been told we’ll never amount to much, or you have not got what it takes to make it in life and because of such statements, we never really try or we’re convinced that success and greatness are the birth-rights of some secluded people.
It is not always true as many ‘greats’ of our time and age did not even see the four walls of ivory towers, while some defied negative prophecies with hard work and prayers to become notables in their times.
Are you tied to a post? Overcoming it is not impossible! Only believe God and trust Him (Isaiah 41:9-10)
