Taking a break or holiday is one of the hardest things to do especially for an active mind. Doing it without a feeling of failure especially when you still have a lot to accomplish on your “to do list” can be very difficult, but we need to understand that there will always be more to do while we are still living. Believers need to understand the difference between setting high standards and unrealistic, impossible ones.
Jesus Christ in Mark 6:30-32 took time out with His disciples. The apostles gathered to Him and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught. And Jesus said to them ‘Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.’ For there were many coming and going and they did not even have time to eat. So they departed to a deserted place in the boat themselves. The Master gave us the example of the benefits of rest and we should take clue so as to finish at record time and not die prematurely.
Here are couple of hints that may be of help to you:
- Always make a list of things that you alone can accomplish, then ask others for assistance for the rest or let them go.
- Break every task into smaller steps and celebrate each step that you finish well.
- Don’t give room to the stuff that’s still undone, to undo you.
- Strike the balance by not becoming addicted to what you enjoy.
- Work at your optimum level and never compare yourself with other. Remember, you have a unique purpose in life.
- Take time to be with people who matter in your life; otherwise you will lose them.
Never be too busy to forget those who are important in your life. All the accomplishment in the world won’t compensate for the joy and treasure of your family and loved ones! Learn to take time out and walk away from the busy lifestyle.
